For more than six decades, the Department of Chemical Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology has prepared engineers to solve complex industrial and societal challenges. Today, the department offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes while continuing to expand its teaching, research, and industry engagement. The department emphasizes problem-solving through a strong grounding in transport phenomena, thermodynamics, reaction engineering, process control, and process systems engineering. Computing, mathematical modelling, and process simulation are integrated throughout the curriculum, while modern laboratories provide hands-on experience in unit operations, process control, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and reaction engineering. Students graduate with the technical skills and practical experience needed across the chemical, energy, pharmaceutical, food, and sustainability sectors.
